Perhaps one of the ONLY things our divided country can agree on is that President Trump is unlike any other president we have ever elected and now a massive leak from a White House insider documenting Trump’s eyebrow-raising daily routine proves that in more ways than one.
The White House source leaked the President’s private schedule to Axios and it includes details from nearly every single day from the last three months. One of the biggest blocks on the schedule is something called “executive time”, an unstructured block of time at Trump’s discretion, which has accounted for over 60% of his working days.
Although the schedule places the President in the Oval Office by 8am, according to the source of the leak and six other sources with direct knowledge, Trump is never there in the morning, opting rather to spend the mornings in the residence mostly watching TV and reading (and responding to) things about himself, other republicans, and opponents sent to him by staffers.
Easily evidenced through his time stamped Twitter archive, we can see he spends a good deal of time tweeting and many of those are coming throughout the night when most people are sleeping. We learn through the various schedule reports that Trump is sleeping 3-4 hours per night at most. That kind of sleep deprivation can lead to poor function throughout the day, not exactly what you want to hear about the nations Commander in Chief.
Chris Whipple, author of the book ‘The Gatekeepers: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every Presidency“, studies Presidential schedules and had the following to say about President Trump.
“There’s almost no [historical] parallel… The most important asset in any presidency is the president’s time and Trump is a guy who gives new meaning to the notion of an unstructured presidency.”Chris Whipple
Insiders also say that Trump skips an alarmingly high number of daily intelligence briefings and completely ignores the traditional written report known as The President’s Daily Brief. Apparently he’ll regularly have lunches with other officials and prefers to eat in for dinners, sometimes having guests of his own choosing. Kid Rock and Sean Hannity are among those who have been Trump’s guests, and he’s said to favor steak, meatloaf, and a Diet Coke. He’s also known for his regular dessert of pie with two scoops of ice cream.
After this rigorous daily schedule, Trump spends most of his weekends unwinding. He likes to golf at his club in Sterling, Va. and has visited his various clubs a reported 166 times since taking office. When a longer holiday is in order, Trump prefers to vacation at his infamous Mar-a-Lago.
