Dr. Anthony Fauci is a common household name lately.
As the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), he is considered the leading infectious disease expert in the country and Americans have been relying on his daily updates and advice during the devastating coronavirus pandemic.
Now he is telling us that we should prepare for the second coronavirus outbreak. He predicts that will hit the US this fall.
Although it’s hard to imagine another outbreak of the coronavirus while we are smack in the middle of the first one, Fauci believes it will happen but that we will be a bit better prepared.
When asked about the possibility of a reappearance and spike of the virus this fall during a recent news conference in the White House Rose Garden, Fauci said, “In fact, I would anticipate that that would actually happen because of the degree of transmissibility.”
Fauci believes that because of where we are now, and what we have learned from this first outbreak, that things “are going to be very, very different” during the next round.
Fauci said, “Our ability to go out and be able to test, identify, isolate, and contact trace, will be orders of magnitude better than what it was just a couple months ago.”
Fauci also stated that he is hopeful that treatments would be ready and available for use by the fall and that work on a vaccine will remain an important priority for the government.
