In October 2016, a Fox News reporter investigated an alleged relationship between Donald Trump and porn star Stephanie Clifford. Diana Falzone of Fox News reportedly conducted an on-the-record interview with Clifford’s manager at the time, and she had seen emails about the settlement Trump’s lawyer arranged to keep the porn star quiet.
Falzone filed the story with Fox News, but the network decided not to run it, per four different sources to CNN. When asked why the network killed the story, Fox News digital Editor-in-Chief Noah Kotch told CNN that the network was “unable to verify all of the facts and publish a story.”
Fox News did not return a request for comment from Newsweek.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to break the story. It was revealed that one of Trump’s attorneys, Michael Cohen, paid Clifford $130,000 to stay silent about her alleged 2006 encounter with President Trump. Of course Donald Trump has been married to current wife, Melania, and the 2006 “encounter” is reported to have occurred approximately four months after the First Lady had given birth to their son.
Per Stephanie Clifford, who performs under the name “Stormy Daniels,” their affair began in Lake Tahoe but the pair met up on a number of occasions. Despite the payout, Mr. Cohen, continues to deny that Trump had a sexual encounter with the adult film star.
Since then, another adult film actress has come forward to corroborate Ms. Clifford’s account. Alana Evans went on Megyn Kelly TODAY and claimed that she had been invited to join Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump in a hotel room in 2006, during the same time period in which Clifford claims their affair was ongoing. Evans says she declined and that Trump himself got on the phone to try to entice her to come. Kelly asked Evans what Trump said to her. As she recalled, he said, “Come hang out with us. Come have fun! Let’s party!”
Fox News was asked for further comment as to why the story was killed in October 2016 by Newsweek, and they have declined to respond. But… I think we already know why.
