The backlash has begun for Tucker Carlson. After the progressive watchdog group Media Matters for America released a flurry of shocking audio clips of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson making sexist, vulgar, and derogatory comments about a variety of topics, including women and children, he has now been kicked to the curb by at least 34 major advertisers.
The audio, which proves that Carlson spend over an hour a week calling in to “Bubba the Love Sponge”, a popular radio program where hosts, guests, and callers engage in commentary on politics and current events, often in lewd and crude ways. Carlson, who has been with Fox News since 2009, logged his calls from 2006-2011, with topics ranging from Warren Jeffs, underage marriage, statutory rape, and more. He can also be heard using extremely offensive and sexist language to talk about women, including his coworkers and some well known public figures, calling them “cunty”, “pigs”, and “whores”. Transcripts were published and the results are shocking, to say the least.
At one point, host Bubba starts talking about UNDERAGE girls engaging in sexual experimentation at a boarding school where Carlson’s daughter attends and Carlson said, “If it weren’t my daughter I would love that scenario.” What is wrong with this statement???
When on the topic of underage marriage, Carlson had this disturbing insight:
“I just don’t think it’s the same thing exactly as pulling a child from a bus stop and sexually assaulting that child… The rapist, in this case, has made a lifelong commitment to live and take care of the person, so it is a little different. I mean, let’s me honest about it.-Tucker Carlson
So far, Carlson has refused to apologize for any of his comment, many of which defended and seemed to even endorse abusive behavior towards women. He said in a statement, “Media Matters caught me saying something naughty on a radio show more than a decade ago. Rather than express the usual ritual contrition, how about this: I’m on television every weeknight live for an hour. If you want to know what I think, you can watch. Anyone who disagrees with my views is welcome to come on and explain why.”
The list of advertisers who have ditched Carlson’s program in recent months is growing and will likely grow some more as more information comes out and the public demand for companies to break ties with him intensifies. As of now, leading companies like Red Lobster, SmileDirectClub, CareerBuilder, drug maker AstraZeneca, sleepwear company Sheex, Pacific Life Insurance, IHOP, and Outback Steakhouse are among the reported 34 which have officially pulled their support.
