US President Donald Trump has a long history of inflammatory comments and actions but his recent behavior is garnering more attention than usual, with many accusing him of deliberately trying to escalate racial tensions and trying to ignite a race war. Advisers now believe this type of behavior is diminishing his chances of reelection in 2020, according to recent article from The Washington Post.
The Post reported that allies of the president and White House staff have even complained that this has been the summer of “missed opportunity and self sabotage.”
Trump has faced criticism from his own supporters this summer. Republican donor Dan Eberhart, the CEO of the drilling-services company Canary who is also a Republican donor told The Post, “Trump squandered a summer of opportunity to enhance his reelection campaign.”
Eberhart also said, “While Democrats are divided and focused on their own primary, President Trump could have focused on solving the trade war, a genuine infrastructure plan, or a decisive foreign policy victory. Instead, he fanned the flames of the trade war, attacked Baltimore, ‘the Squad,’ and the Federal Reserve, and failed to add a cornerstone achievement to his 2020 election credentials.”

The White House released a statement in response to The Post’s article and said that Trump had “accomplished more at this point in his first term than any president in history.” White House spokesman Judd Deere said, “His policies are building a safer, stronger and more secure America,”
Trump’s campaign rallies have been full of hostile energy and partisan attacks and it seemed that in a July 4 speech in Washington, DC, Trump was trying to turn the tide as he focused more on praising the US military. But in the weeks since then, he has engaged, and even been responsible for, racially motivated attacks against four Democratic congresswomen and then let loose a barrage of insulting comments against Baltimore.
Trump still denies any wrongdoing with the congresswomen, saying in a tweet that THEY had “brought racist attacks against our Nation.” He said, “All I do is call them out for the horrible things they have said.”
The Amazon Washington Post did a story that I brought racist attacks against the “Squad.” No, they brought racist attacks against our Nation. All I do is call them out for the horrible things they have said. The Democrats have become the Party of the Squad!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 2, 2019
Some critics have drawn a line linking Trump’s hateful anti-migrant and anti-immigration rhetoric and the violent motives behind the El Paso mass shooting gunman and Trump recently took opportunity during a visit with the victims of those recent mass shootings to attack political rivals.
Many factors loom large with potential to take down Trump’s chances at reelection- plus the trade war on China, with economists forecasting that a recession may be on its way could undermine the strong economy the President loves to boast about. All this and rising disapproval ratings? Hope the Trumpster is up for a challenge.
