Obviously, Trump has had a long time to think about his beloved border wall. and it seems during that time, he’s come up with some pretty detailed ideas of what it should look like and how it should function by doing some pretty intense “micromanaging”. The Washington Post recently reported that Trump has indeed we are hearing about is Trump’s instructions to border wall engineers to paint the wall black to make it hotter and thus harder to climb. Trump’s great ideas don’t stop there! Keep reading.
Aside from the instruction to paint the bollards that make up the wall “flat black” so that they absorb more heat and would hopefully then be too hot to scale in the summer, Trump has also instructed engineers to install pointed tips on the wall so people could further risk serious injury by trying to climb it, said The Post. According to the report, Trump has described “in graphic terms the potential injuries that border crossers might receive” and has furthermore made his little wish list known to White House aides, Department of Homeland Security officials, and military engineers.
Though Trump stated in The Post, (and has elsewhere), that he wants the wall to be “physically imposing but also aesthetically pleasing.” He has complained numerous times and is, “micromanaging the project down to the smallest design details.” The Post reports that Trump would even wake then-Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, early in the AM to talk minor details about the plants.
His current beef with the most recent prototype for the structure is that it has too many gates that would allow for passage of people and he wants those openings to be narrowed.
Although, since we know he changes his mind often, it’s hard to know how long his current vision for his pet project will last. Officials point out that the frequent mind changing also raises the price.
It hasn’t been THAT long ago since President Trump declared a national emergency in February of this year to pull BILLIONS of funds from Department of Defense to fund the long-desired border wall, which has been a giant talking point for Trump and his supporters since the 2016 presidential campaign.
But it’s not without controversy and many high ranking House Dems are fighting to make sure Trump and his administration cannot just take whatever they want from the Pentagon.
