Even Republican Senator Lindsey Graham seems to have had enough of President Donald Trump.
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing while questioning Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Graham commented on how negotiations with President Trump over Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) had devolved. “This has turned into a ‘s-show’ and we need to get back to being a great country where Democrats and Republicans work together to do something that we should have done years ago,” Graham stated.
On Tuesday, Trump seemed to want to protect DACA recipients, and supportive of a comprehensive immigration reform plan. Then on Thursday, Trump rejected a tentative bipartisan deal, infamously asking why our country should admit immigrants from “shithole” countries.
Graham went on to say that he felt as though he were dealing with two presidents; one who agreed that DACA required a bipartisan solution and seemed to be willing to make compromises, and one who later said that America shouldn’t accept immigrants from “shithole” countries.
Per Graham, “So Tuesday, we had a president that I was proud to golf with, call my friend, who understood immigration had to be bipartisan, you had to have border security as essential, you have border security with a wall, but he also understood the idea that we had to do it with compassion…I don’t know where that guy went. I want him back.”
Graham has fallen prey to the Trump many of us were already familiar with: The man who says one thing to make himself look good, and then does the exact opposite in private. That’s how hypocrites roll.
