CNN’s chief legal analyst, Jeffrey Toobin, mocked Donald Trump, saying the president has been “reduced to LegalZoom” to find lawyers willing to represent him.
During a CNN panel discussion, Toobin said, “What the president needs is a lawyer with experience in criminal law. He still doesn’t have one. It is an extraordinary spectacle to see the president reduced to LegalZoom, I think, to get who’s going to represent him.”
While none of us could blame anybody for accepting a job offer from Trump these days, Toobin offered commentary on what it is that makes legal recruiting top-level legal representation particularly tough for Donald Trump:
“The idea that this extremely prestigious assignment is being turned down because he doesn’t listen to lawyers, he thinks he’s smarter than lawyers, he doesn’t pay lawyers — I mean this is a problem for him.”
Last week, it was widely reported that special counsel Robert Mueller is currently preparing a report on Trump’s actions during his tenure in office, looking specifically for any actions that could be considered obstruction of justice.
Per The Washington Post Robert Mueller relayed that information to the president’s legal team and emphasized that his own team needs to sit down with Trump himself for an interview, as part of their effort to determine whether he had any intent to sabotage the probe into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
That is bound to be a tense interview and one would think that if any lawyer of gravitas had any interest in wading into that mire, they would have done so already.
