Each day, the nation wakes with renewed confusion about how exactly Rudolph Giuliani has managed to keep his job on Donald Trump’s legal team.
This week, he took a major swipe at former Vice President Joe Biden, telling HuffPost:
“They need someone new, who would be more threatening to us. They’ve got to hit us with a surprise. The unknown frightens me more than Elizabeth Warren or Biden.”
Giuliani put a fine point on the fact that none of the candidates currently considered potential 2020 opponents worries him, predicting that Donald Trump will crush the Dems with an easy win over any of the known candidates. He reserved his harshest, most disgusting comments for the former vice president.
“Joe Biden is a moron,” said Giuliani. He also claimed that Joe Biden finished last in his law school class at Syracuse University, and that he had been unable to understand various issues Giuliani tried to discuss with him back when he was a federal prosecutor and Biden was a senator. To put an even finer point on it, Giuliani continued, “I’m calling Joe Biden a mentally deficient idiot.”
We can safely add ableism to the veritable galaxy of things about which Giuliani himself is ignorant. But Joe Biden is not an idiot. In stark contrast to President Trump, Biden has repeatedly exhibited such intellectual super powers as knowing where nations are on a globe, being able to pronounce them, knowing who leads them, etc.
He additionally spent 8 years as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, so it is implausible that Joe Biden would have been unable to understand any legalese presented by Rudy ‘I Don’t Think A President Can Be Subpoenaed’ Giuliani.
Unless, of course, he means failure to “understand” the way we fail to understand a toddler who only learned to make mouth-noises yesterday and is now giving an impassioned speech about — applesauce? The dog? Kierkegaard? A dirty diaper? Late-stage capitalism?
