A conservative Republican group is using a new ad campaign to encourage the Senate to remove President Trump from office at the end of the impeachment trial and to replace him with Vice President Mike Pence.
On the website, they state: “Mike Pence is a bland, boring, completely typical, ordinary conservative Republican from Indiana… And if the Senate does its duty, they’ll make him the next president of the United States.”
They have even produced a commercial that is locked and loaded to air on Fox News as the impeachment vote looms on the horizon.
Defending Democracy Together has said they are not suggesting that removing Trump from office is a perfect solution.
They say while it will not undo the 2016 results, it WILL produce a better outcome than the one we have with Trump as Commander in Chief. They put it like this, through spokesperson Tim Miller, who said in a statement, “It won’t put Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi in the White House.
Instead it will give us President Mike Pence… And while Pence isn’t the president of anyone’s dreams, he isn’t Donald Trump either. So there’s that.”

This campaign is certainly different from most presidential campaigns which usually exalt their chosen candidates to a God-like status. This is more of an acceptance campaign- accepting that almost ANYONE is better than Trump.
While Trump supporters love their MAGA gear, conservative pundit Bill Kristol wore a different MAGA hat: one that says “Mike’s Alright Given Alternative.”
Kristol is a founder of the group, which is a parent group of another anti-Trump GOP organization, Republicans for the Rule of Law, who is responsible for a slew of ads supporting the impeachment of President Trump.
These two groups aren’t the only backlash Trump is facing from his own side. One group, the Lincoln Project, backed by prominent conservatives including one with ties to the Trump White House, George Conway. Conway is the husband of Kellyanne Conway, who has served as counsel to Trump throughout his presidency.
The Lincoln Project has recently released its own ad endorsing impeachment of President Trump. In it, it calls on Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), saying “do your job” and encouraging her to vote for witnesses and evidence in the trial.
The video features a voiceover saying, “Madame Senator, this time a finger-wag will not cut it….You’re a senator, so act like it.”
