Melissa Howard, a Republican candidate for Florida State House who was publicly exposed for wildly misrepresenting her educational background, is admitting she lied about her education and faked her diploma, but she refuses to exit the campaign.

Per the The Sarasota Herald-Tribune — the degree Howard showcased, which was reportedly sent to media outlets by her campaign and briefly featured on her Facebook page, lists a made-up degree that Miami University does not even offer ― bachelor of science in marketing,
Last Monday, Howard released a statement copping to her fraud:
“I would like to apologize to my family and my supporters for this situation. It was not my intent to deceive or mislead anyone. I made a mistake in saying that I completed my degree. What I did was wrong and set a bad example for someone seeking public service. I am staying in the race and intend to win and lead by example from now on.”
Howard’s opponent in the race for the 73rd district seat, whom Howard accused of making false accusations about that degree, issued a statement on his Facebook page. He did not seize the opportunity to delight in Howard’s humiliation. Instead, his post expressed concern for her family:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Howards as they get through their medical struggles with Ian. We ask others to be respectful of them as they are dealing with this medical trauma.”
