Anyone who works in journalism, especially in a very public and visible position like a reporter, has come to expect a fair amount of trolling, whether it be snarky online comments or a much more up close and personal attack like the one we are about to show you.
Reporter Michael Gordon, who works for the El Paso, Texas ABC affiliate KVIA, experienced the ugly side first-hand at a political event held in his hometown. Gordon was in front of the camera, mic in hand, obviously preparing for a live shot when it happened. A woman dressed in the signature Trump-red shirt and matching hat with, yeah, you guessed it, “Make America Great Again” splashed across it, approached Gordon. She seemed like a woman on a mission. She was carrying a sign that had some of Trump’s favorite phrases like “No Collusion” and “Fake By Omission”, among other things.
Gordon posted the video to his Twitter account with the hashtag “Be Best”.
Gordon remains calm as this woman literally flails herself around him, waving the sign, shouting and chanting at him. She rushes forward saying “Hi fake news! Hi fake news!” and then the chanting, “Fake ass news! Fake ass news!” She then turns to the camera and points “Y’all are fake! You spread fake news! You should be ashamed of yourselves!” And then she wanders off, chanting “Trump 2020! Trump 2020!”
2 things. A) I hold absolutely no ill will towards the woman in that clip and B) A ton of credit goes to my photographer Todd Tony. He had my back out there all day and got some truly amazing shots pic.twitter.com/Mvr2qDA2he— Michael Gordon KVIA ABC-7 (@MichaelGordonTV) April 2, 2019
Gordon managed to remain cool and collected throughout the whole incident and has said in a tweet that he harbors no ill will towards the woman. Kudos to him for being able to take the high road and not engage absolutely idiotic behavior.
