In a controversial decision last year, the Senate confirmed Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, amid scores of sexual misconduct allegations by several women. Recently we have learned that just days before the confirmation, Sen. Christopher Coons (D-Del.) asked the FBI to look into further allegations against the judge- allegations that have just now been made public.
Both The Washington Post and CNN have secured copies of Coons’ Oct. 2, 2018 letter to the FBI imploring them to do an “appropriate follow up” with the person who had told Coons about the newest allegations. AT that point, several women had accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault.
Turns out, the FBI did NOT take Coon’s account and request into consideration and just like that, Kavanaugh was confirmed.
The Post was able to verify the story, speaking to a Coons spokesperson who confirmed that an individual named Max Stier, who was a classmate of Kavanaugh’s, contacted Senator Coons. His allegations are now detailed in an upcoming book about the ordeal by NY Times reporters Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly.
In an excerpt from the forthcoming book published by the New York Times recently, Stier took his story to both senators and the FBI, recounting an incident during Kavanaugh’s freshman year at Yale, wherein the now-Supreme Court Justice pushed his penis into the hands of a female student while they attended a friend’s party.
Stier refused to be interviewed for Pogrebin and Kelly’s book but the Times corroborated the allegations with additional people who had talked to Stier. The female student referenced in the allegation also declined to speak and her friends said she didn’t recall the incident.
Coons’ letter to the FBI requesting further investigation stated “several individuals” had reached out to him asking to share relevant information with federal officials but that that’d had “difficulty reaching anyone who will collect their information.”
There’s been no shortage of criticism directed at the FBI during the Kavanaugh investigation, many believing they weren’t as wide sweeping as they should have been. Senate Democrats called foul on limits that the White House had set for the investigation last year and for the DOZENS of potential witnesses who had come forth to the FBI with information but had reportedly not been interviewed.
President Donald Trump continues to offer his unwavering support for Kavanaugh, saying on Twitter, “The one who is actually being assaulted is Justice Kavanaugh – Assaulted by lies and Fake News! This is all about the LameStream Media working with their partner, the Dems.”
