In the wake of Rudy Giuliani’s appalling comments about Stormy Daniels, Nicole Wallace asked a panel on MCNBC’s Deadline: White House on Thursday to opine on the silence of both Melania and Ivanka Trump. Wallace asked, “Are they just the most stoic human beings? Are they numb, are they dead inside, are they paid off? I mean, what’s their deal?”
Emily Jane Fox, Vanity Fair reporter, responded: “Yes, yes and yes. But I think they do not see President Trump the way that all of us see President Trump. They have such a distorted image of who he is that they don’t have the kind of reaction that we do. It’s almost some sort of trick or spell he has on them.”
Fox called first daughter Ivanka Trump the “most masterful compartmentalizer that America has maybe ever seen.”
Wallace was incredulous that Giuliani had the audacity to make such comments since, after all, the president is accused of sleeping with Stormy Daniels and most people are pretty much certain that he did. Not only that, but in the case of Daniels and others, it was Trump himself who chose the women; he wasn’t being chased, by anyone’s account.
Fox said that she was not at all surprised by that Giuliani’s comments, saying this his client Trump has “incredibly sexist” views. She listed Trump’s well-known insults about women, including calling them “dogs” and “pigs,” and boasting about having grabbed women by their genitals.
While Fox may be right about Ivanka’s ability to compartmentalize, it should be noted that Melania may not share that particular gift. At least, not to the superlative degree of her step-daughter.
Yikes. I asked @FLOTUS spokeswoman @StephGrisham45 about Giuliani saying that she believes her husband re Stormy Daniels. Response: “I don’t believe Mrs. Trump has ever discussed her thoughts on anything with Mr. Giuliani.”
