Former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, is currently under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller for allegedly plotting to kidnap a Turkish Muslim cleric living in the US and return him to Turkey.
The plan was to return Fethullah Gülen from his home in the Poconos to Turkey, for which Flynn and his son, Michael Flynn Jr., would recieve a $15 million. Gülen has been accused of instigating a failed coup against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s administration, and Erdogan has been trying to get Gülen extradited to face trial in Turkey for several years.
Flynn was sacked from his position in the Trump Administration after just 24 days on the job due to contact he’d had with Russian officials during the transition period after the 2016 Presidential Election.
In March of this year, Flynn retroactively registered with the Justice Department as a foreign agent for Turkey, revealing he’d been working with a Turkish businessman during the election and the transition period. He also revealed his company, Flynn Intel Group, Inc., had profited $530,000 to lobby the US government on Turkey’s behalf.
Mueller has been investigating Flynn and his son as part of the Russia probe, and already has enough evidence to bring charges against them. Flynn’s lawyers, Robert Kelner, Stephen Anthony and Brian Smith, have denied the allegations against their client, saying that, “They are false”.
That’s right, our country’s former National Security Adviser was working for and profiting from Turkey while he was supposed to be working to help keep our country safe. As if President Donald Trump wasn’t appalling enough on his own, every few days new information about members of his administration, his peers, or his family, is brought to light which makes them look just as appalling.
There’s a saying about that here in the southeastern US: Choose your friends wisely, because you’ll be judged by the company you keep. Apparently, Trump is excellent at surrounding himself with people on his level.
