On Friday, Former First Lady Michelle Obama addressed the outrageous tweets recently made by President Donald Trump as she proudly called attention to what she believes makes America so great- diversity.
Obama said on Twitter,”What truly makes our country great is its diversity. I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years. Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all. We must remember it’s not my America or your America. It’s our America.”
The popular author and former First Lady was careful not to use Trump’s name but she clearly knew what she was doing in the opening line, calling America’s true greatness its diversity, clearly intending to reference the President’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Obama was responding to Trump’s hateful and bigoted rhetoric throughout the past week as he addressed four progressive congresswomen, telling them to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested” countries from which they came.

The president’s tweets and subsequent comments were directed specifically to Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, who all happen to have been born in the US, except Omar, who officially became a US citizen at 17.
Trump’s tweets never fail to fire up his base, as proven at a North Carolina rally last week where his supporters echoed his sentiments, chanting “Send her back!” repeatedly. At rally for his re-election campaign on Wednesday in North Carolina, Trump continued his attacks on Omar, which prompted the crowd to echo his racist tweets with chants of, “SEND HER BACK!”
Trump has since tried to claim he tried to stop the chanting, but footage from the rally show that he stood at the mic and allowed the chanting to continue for a full 13 seconds. He has also continued his tirade against the congresswomen, tweeting that he believes they “hate our country.”
…..Congresswomen, who I truly believe, based on their actions, hate our Country. Get a list of the HORRIBLE things they have said. Omar is polling at 8%, Cortez at 21%. Nancy Pelosi tried to push them away, but now they are forever wedded to the Democrat Party. See you in 2020!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 16, 2019
