Folks, this story is one to put a smile on your face, if for no other reason than it includes one of Donald Trump’s ‘sh*thole’ countries standing up to our bully president.
It all began when First Lady Melania Trump landed in Malawi on Thursday morning in an expensive dress and high heels.
She was greeted by a group of protesters in an unexpected way – with signs referring to offensive remarks made earlier this year by her husband.
The bold and bright signs, on display by a group of women and children at the Kamazu International Airport, had a number of anti-Trump messages: One read “MELANIATOO” with the “ME” highlighted, referencing the #metoo movement while another said “69 Days Past The Deadline to Reunite Families” painfully pointing out the President’s controversial Zero Tolerance Immigration Policy which has left thousands of immigrant children separated from their parents at the United States border.
Perhaps the shadiest welcome was the sign proudly reminding Mrs. Trump that Malawi was, in fact, “#NOTASHITHOLE” since her husband has been criticized for his outrageous remarks from a speech in January of this year where he reportedly referred to immigrants from Haiti and and other African countries as hailing from “shithole countries”.
Melania clearly wanted to extract some goodwill and detract from her husband’s always derogatory and infantile rhetoric but she seems to miss the mark, as usual, perhaps because of the irreparable damage Donald’s behavior pours out upon the US and the rest of the world.
“Meeting those children and understanding their different way of life is why I wanted to travel here… I was heartened to spend time with the students and was honored to donate school supplies and soccer balls.”, said Melania during her visit.
Melania is currently on a four-nation tour touting the United States’ involvement in providing over 1.4 billion books to African schoolchildren through a US nationally funded reading program. This stop is just the second on the trip.
If you agree that Malawis is NOT a ‘shithole country’, then we invite you to help us spread this message, friends…
