Melania Trump’s office has pushed back on claims made by former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman in her new book, Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House, that her marriage to the president is on the rocks.
The first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, told Washington Examiner that the Melania Trump and Omarosa “rarely, if ever, interacted” during Manigault Newman’s tenure at the White House.
“It’s disappointing to her that she is lashing out and retaliating in such a self-serving way, especially after all the opportunities given to her by the President.”
Per excerpts reported by Newsweek, the former “Apprentice” fixture writes that Melania Trump chooses her outfits in order to “punish” President Trump. She also writes that Melania is counting down the days of Trump’s presidency so that she can go ahead and divorce him.
Another prominent and damaging book offering an insider account of Trump’s White House, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump While House by Michael Wolff, also painted a picture of an icy marriage between the president and the first lady. Wolff claimed the two do not even share a bedroom.
Omarosa Manigault Newman’s new book makes several damning claims about the president, including that Trump used racial slurs on multiple occasions during tapings of “The Apprentice.” She also revealed that she secretly recorded multiple conversations with Trump and other White House officials.
Trump’s entire team has been put on the defensive by Omarosa’s new book, with Trump launching a number of tirades on Twitter, Kellyanne Conway failing to come up with a single high-level African American West Wing staffer, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders being asked whether she can be certain about whether Donald Trump has ever used “the N-word.”
