London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s Greater London Authority has granted permission for activists to launch an enormous balloon known as “Trump Baby” from Parliament Square Garden on July 13, when President Trump is set to arrive in London for a three-day visit to the U.K.
Khan’s spokesperson told NPR, “The Mayor supports the right to peaceful protest and understands that this can take many different forms. … However the organisers will also need to receive the necessary approvals from the Metropolitan Police and national air traffic service in order for it to fly.”
The “Trump Baby” blimp is reportedly almost 20 feet tall, wearing nothing but a diaper. A tuft of yellow hair tops his orange head. “Trump Baby” is also holding a phone, seemingly ready to tweet.
Now the blimp has his very own Twitter account.

A protest organizer, Max Wakefield, says the London authority objected to the idea, but was swayed by an online petition to “Let Trump Baby Fly,” which garnered thousands of signatures and significant media attention.
Wakefield says, “Quite quickly after we managed to get some media interest, it didn’t take very long for this to blow up — excuse the pun.” He added, “The only way that you can make any impact with Donald Trump is to mock him, because you can’t engage him in any kind of argument — it never gets anywhere.”
Wakefield has a point, and we are so fortunate that London is allowing this point to be made with humor.
