Sometimes the most game-changing moves come in the most unexpected forms…and in the case of the Mueller investigation, all it took was one warrant to change everything.
Ironically, it all revolves around Facebook, who recently disclosed that they received over $100,000 in payments for around 3,000 ads.
Those ads were purchased by fake accounts and pages for the purpose of spreading false information about Hillary Clinton. Unsurprisingly, those ads were purchased by Russians.
The good news is that Robert Mueller has obtained a search warrant for the records of those fake accounts.
Per the first report on this scandal by the Wall Street Journal, “Facebook Inc. has handed over to special counsel Robert Mueller detailed records about the Russian ad purchases on its platform that go beyond what the company shared with Congress last week, according to people familiar with the matter.”
Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti claims that Mueller’s search warrant for Facebook could be “the biggest news” related to the long-running investigation since the raid on Paul Manafort’s home. This information, coupled with Facebook’s admission that they turned over more detailed information to Mueller than to Congress, is excellent news.
Even with all the evidence to the contrary, there are still those that stubbornly deny that Russia interfered with the 2016 Presidential Election. Some of the biggest deniers are Kellyanne Conway, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Sean Spicer, all of whom have done everything in their power to spin the investigation as media bullying and conspiracy theory fodder.
The more information that Mueller and his team can get that directly supports Russian interference, either in the form of making deals or dissemination false information, the better. But there will always be those who cannot be convinced, especially when one considers that an astounding amount of Republicans still believe Barack Obama was not born in the US.
