Just when you thought you had seen everything, Ivanka Trump showed up unannounced at a school. Not everyone was happy…
Norwalk Early College Academy in Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Connecticut, employs an interesting educational program. Students can get their high school education while also taking college courses, and thereby graduate with both their high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree in software engineering or mobile programming. IBM developed this wonderful program.
So the school being visited by IBM CEO Ginni Rometty should have been a pretty momentous occasion. Unfortunately, Ms. Rometty was joined by first daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump. While there, Ms. Trump gave a little speech, which included this nonsensical quote, “To see the passion and enthusiasm for bringing real life skills into a classroom environment but then coupling it with real life experience through internship creates this really beautiful virtuous angle.”
Ms. Trump’s aforementioned gobbledygook, as well as her relationship with President Donald Trump, is probably why several parents were angered by her visit. Due to “security concerns”, Ms. Trump’s visit was not publicized, and many parents were outraged that they didn’t have the choice to pull their kids from school. One parent, Karey Fitzgerald, said, “This should have been brought to our attention, although I do understand security reasons. I think we should have had the choice to send our child to school or keep them home.”
Ms. Fitzgerald has an excellent point. What parent would want their child to listen to the spoiled daughter of a hateful, bigoted man? If the rest of Ms. Trump’s speech was on par with the quote above, a kid who missed her visit really wouldn’t have missed much.
