In an interview Wednesday, former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called out Republican lawmakers for their incompetence concerning the
investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election. Then, for good measure, she threw a little shade at President Trump and his supporters in the process.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show, she proposed a hypothetical situation to illustrate her point about the Republicans in charge:
“Imagine, Rachel, that you had one of the Democratic nominees for 2020 on your show and that person said, ‘Y’know, the only other adversary of ours, who’s anywhere near as good as the Russians, is China. So why should Russia have all the fun? And since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don’t we ask China to back us?’”Hillary Clinton
Clinton then went on to use a version of Trump’s own words from a 2016 news conference, when he famously implored Russia to hack into her emails, assuring them that the press would offer them a nice reward. Clinton continued:
“China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns?… I’m sure our media would richly reward you.”Hillary Clinton
Clinton pointed out the fact that according to the recently released Mueller report, if China did just that then it wouldn’t be considered criminal conspiracy because it was done “right out in the open.” She said that apparently there would be absolutely nothing wrong with an international adversary then handing those over to “whatever the new Wikileaks happened to be.”

She told Rachel how Republicans like to bring her up whenever they are looking for distraction from the real issues facing the country. She said, “That’s the real story. That’s what they don’t want the American people thinking about. So when in doubt, they say something wild about me.” She also said that she seems to be “living rent-free” inside of President Trump’s brain, noting his obsession with her. “And it’s not a very nice place to be, I can tell you that,” she said.
The Mueller report has details about how Russian hackers did indeed attempt to hack Hillary Clinton within mere hours of Trump’s proposal although he has said since then that he meant for it to be sarcastic. He might say he was joking, but the response from Russia was no joke. The report says that Russian officers targeted Clinton’s personal office, sending malicious emails to 15 of her accounts. The report reads that the “investigation did not find evidence of earlier GRU attempts to compromise accounts hosted on this domain.”
