A recent POLITICO/Morning Consult poll in which voters were asked to choose between giving Trump a second term versus voting in a hypothetical Democrat. The results were that 35% of respondents would give Trump another go while 46 percent would vote for literally any Democrat.
As President Trump has enjoyed 34-38 percent job approval since June, per Gallup’s Daily Tracker, it does make sense that roughly 35 percent of Americans just cannot quit Trump.
Props to the hypothetical Democrat in the above polling scenario; respondents don’t are not always hyper-partisan so it’s surprising that so many were willing to vote Any Name (D) in 2020.
Since that first poll, POLITICO/Morning Consult released another poll, albeit a very similar one. This time they squared off President Trump against former Vice President Joe Biden. Curiously, the results were the same. Trump would have support of 35 percent of respondents while Biden would have 46 percent. Like the previous poll, that would leave roughly 19 percent uncertain.
This may seem like lukewarm news for a potential Biden run, but it isn’t. If Trump remains through the entirety of his first term, the Democrats cannot afford to match him against someone self-righteous or professorial. Joe Biden has an enormous personality, like Trump… a personality that voters have found favorable, unlike Trump. Joe Biden also knows how to govern, how to find continents on a map, and all of the other skills we’d come to expect of our presidents.
One could also argue that Biden is bulletproof versus Trump because his greatest political liability was being known as a “gaffe machine.” This president has rendered that entire phrase useless. Biden’s resume of gaffes would be obliterated compared to, ray, a random sampling of Donald Trump’s tweets.
Joe Biden 2020: It’s a B.F.D.
