Three days after the controversial “Nunes Memo” was released, Republican leaders have been forced to acknowledge that the FBI did indeed disclose the political origins of the so-called Steele dossier, which was cited in the application to obtain the FISA warrant necessary to surveil Donald Trump’s campaign adviser Carter Page.
Of course, this huge omission from the memo undermines the memo’s entire premise: that the FBI clandestinely abused its power in obtaining the warrant, for politically motivated reasons.
Most Republicans continue to insist that the federal probe into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia should be halted as it has been fueled by nothing but political bias. Democrats maintain that the investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 election would have happened, regardless of the dossier. It’s important to note that both the FBI and DOJ held the same position when they opposed the release of the so-called Nunes Memo.
Now Democrats have seized upon public comments made House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA-22nd) and intelligence committee member Trey Gowdy (R-SC-4th). The Democrats are arguing that the GOP memo’s failure to mention a key footnote in the FBI application shows the extent to which the party has cherry-picked classified facts to in order to protect their dear leader, President Donald Trump.
Now House Democrats insist that the intelligence committee Democrats insist must vote on Monday to release a classified 11-page rebuttal they wrote to the 3.5 page GOP memo.
That’s only fair, right? The entire purpose of the Nunes memo was to undermine the Russia investigation by painting a picture in which the FISA warrant was issued solely because of the Steele dossier. Moreover, they implied that the dossier was not even cited in the application for the warrant. Yet… the entire purpose of this memo was to show the political bias of the FBI?
Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA-28th), who is high in the running for the single biggest thorn in Donald Trump’s side, is setting the record straight. He has spoken at-length about the FISA application process and the extent to which it’s been misrepresented by the Republicans.
This displeased Donald Trump, as the truth so often does.
Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped!

Schiff was quick to respond to the president, and even scored a jab by referencing Trump’s schedule as outlined in Fire and Fury: Inside The Trump White House.
Mr. President, I see you’ve had a busy morning of “Executive Time.” Instead of tweeting false smears, the American people would appreciate it if you turned off the TV and helped solve the funding crisis, protected Dreamers or…really anything else. https://t.co/lVqQRu2Gjl

At the moment, all we can do is wait for the release of the 11-page rebuttal. One wonders whether Nunes or Trump had any idea how badly this stupid memo was going to bite them each in their respective ass?
Probably not. They’re not really thinkers.
