One just never knows what is going to come out of President Donald Trump’s mouth during any given moment yet recently, during a CNBC interview in Switzerland, he still managed to shock us by insisting that we must protect our genius Americans, including the “inventor of the wheel.”
When Trump declared that we should “protect our genius,” including Americans Elon Musk and Thomas Edison, he also included those people responsible for inventing the wheel. I just—
Trump was in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum and offered high praise to Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his car and businesses alike, saying, “I was worried about him, because he’s one of our great geniuses, and we have to protect our genius,”
But he didn’t stop there. The Trump train was just leaving the station as he rambled, “You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison, and we have to protect all of these people that came up with, originally, the lightbulb, and the wheel and all of these things.” Oh my.
A history lesson, shall we? The wheel is first credited to the Mesopotamians, who would have lived in an ancient region that now mostly corresponds to Iraq, and is first thought to have appeared around 3,500 B.C.
Now Trump is claiming it to be an American feat of ingenuity?
But I digress, let Professor Trump take you down this path. Trump, clearly talking about Tesla’s legal battles, said, “You go back a year, and they were talking about the end of the company… And now all of a sudden they’re talking about these great things.”
Then Trump went on to praise Musk for his aerospace achievements. Buckle up for this one. It’s good.
“He’s also doing the rockets, he likes rockets, and he does good at rockets, too, by the way… I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they’re landing.”Donald Trump, on Elon Musk
And oooh Twitter loves to see it when Trump goes off the rails. Here’s a few gems:
In one minute today Trump managed to:— Joshua Potash (@JoshuaPotash) January 22, 2020
– Say Elon Musk “does very good at rockets”
– Imply Thomas Edinson is alive
– Say the wheel was invented in America
Such a massive embarrassment to our country.
