According to CNN’s Erin Burnett, President Trump was quite angry with Hope Hicks after she delivered her closed-door testimony to the House Intelligence Committee — in which she refused to answer many questions regarding the events of Donald Trump’s transition — and raised many eyebrows by saying that she was sometimes required to tell “white lies” as part of her job in the Trump administration.
Like so many hand-picked by this president, many people wondered how exactly Hicks transitioned from modeling, to working for Ivanka Trump’s fashion label… to White House Communications Director. Perhaps not as bizarre a career transition as Jared Kushner pivoting from realtor to “senior adviser” to the president, but, of course, Hope Hicks is not a member of Trump’s family.
Erin Burnett reported that right after Hicks testified and press got wind of the “white lies” comments, Donald Trump asked Hicks “how she could be so stupid. Burnett cites one of Trump’s “close allies” for this information.
“Apparently, that was the final straw for Hope Hicks,” Burnett said.
Hicks, who was one of Trump’s closest advisers, announced her resignation from the White House Wednesday:
“There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump. I wish the president and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country.”
Hicks has not announced a firm departure date but is expected to leave the White House in the next few weeks, White House officials said.
Following the resignation of Hope Hicks, ABC News has released a comprehensive list of all those who have departed the Trump White House to-date.
