In an appearance on “Fox & Friends”, President Donald Trump acknowledged that he pressured Ukraine’s government to open up an investigation into the conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered with the 2016 US presidential election.
He admitted that he did so by withholding military aid. Basically, he admitted to the very thing he’s denied- and the very thing this impeachment inquiry is about.
Trump believes, falsely, according to all accounts, that Ukraine is in possession of a Democratic National Committee “server” which they are hiding.
This “server”, he says, is concealing incriminating evidence that would prove Ukrainian involvement and collusion with the Democratic party surrounding the 2016 election.
Former National Security Council official Fiona Hill testified during the impeachment hearings this week there is no such thing- that this is the result of a Russian disinformation campaign.
Trump said, however, “They have the server, right, from the DNC, Democratic National Committe… The FBI went in and they told them, get out of here, we’re not giving it to you. They gave the server to CrowdStrike or whatever it’s called, which is a country — which is a company owned by a very wealthy Ukrainian. And I still want to see that server. You know, the FBI’s never gotten that server. That’s a big part of this whole thing. Why did they give it to a Ukrainian company?”
Steve Doocy, co-host of the popular Fox show, seemed to predict where this was going and asked, “Are you sure they did that? Are you sure they gave it to Ukraine?”
Then, referencing the July 25 conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that is the heart of this entire impeachment inquiry, Trump said, “Well, that’s what the word is. That’s what I asked, actually, in my phone call.”
Amazingly, President Trump KEPT TALKING, he said, “I mean, I asked it very point-blank, because we’re looking for corruption. There’s tremendous corruption. Why should we be giving hundreds of millions of dollars to countries when there’s this kind of corruption?”

So it seems, in this one appearance, Trump has linked the 2016 conspiracy theory to the “corruption” cause he and his cronies have used as the reason for holding back important military aid to Ukraine.
The impeachment inquiry really centered around the question of whether or not Trumped wielded his own political power for private gain.
During that July 25 phone call, Trump implored Zelensky to open an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, for their business dealings in Ukraine. The details of the call came out from a whistleblower and more than a dozen witnesses gave their accounts during the hearings, which further reinforced the case against Trump.
