Known for his confident eloquence, Dan Rather says what millions upon millions of Americans are thinking. Once again the wise journalist has watched, listened, analyzed, and found the words to describe the unfolding scene that stars our incapable President and the hollow Republican party. This time, however, his penchant toward a more reserved writing style yielded to a stark matter-of-fact assessment.
“Mr. Trump will be seen as a loser, and so will his new cheerleader Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.”
Rather points out that no president – especially Donald Trump – wants to be remembered as a loser. Trump, however, is so fixated on this particular label (or avoiding it), that Rather calls it the “very essence of his being.”
Pointing out the inadequacies of the Republican majorities in Congress, Rather slammed the “party of NO” for offering nothing but hollow promises, and for their inability to offer effective governmental leadership. Understanding that we are now harvesting the “bitter fruit” of their Obama-era obstructionist policies, Rather believes we should prepare for things to get worse before they get better. Cleary, the American voters agreed, voting a Democratic majority back into the House of Representatives to provide much needed checks and balances to an out-of-control administration.
Meanwhile, the specter of Russia is a shadow that grows ever darker over the White House. An isolated president in an isolated administration looking at public losses and dropping popularity will react in ways no one can predict.
