According to a new report out Saturday from The Washington Post, President Donald Trump has gone to “extraordinary lengths” to hide detailed and specific records of various meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Post spoke with former and current US officials who stated that at one point Mr. Trump actually took physical possession of his own interpreter’s notes and instructed the interpreter not to discuss anything that had transpired during the meeting.
This was not a singular event. In fact, there have been five known face-to-face meetings between Trump and Putin at different locations from the last two years with absolutely no detailed record. The Post also points out that this is NOT typical presidential protocol.
In response to this report, a White House spokesman told the Post that this administration is simply trying to “improve the relationship with Russia” since they believe Obama’s administration “pursued a flawed ‘reset’ policy that sought engagement for the sake of engagement.”.
In a reply on Fox News, Mr. Trump stated, “I had a conversation like every president does. You sit with the president of various countries… I do it with all countries. We had a great conversation, we were talking about Israel and securing Israel and lots of other things and it was a great conversation. I’m not keeping anything under wraps. I couldn’t care less.”
The Post’s report comes amid ongoing investigations by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to determine whether there was interference and/or collusion surrounding the 2016 Presidential Elections.
