The U.S. cautioned First Son-in-Law and inexplicable “senior adviser” Jared Kushner that Wendi Deng Murdoch, a former wife of Rupert Murdoch, could potentially use her friendship Kushner and Ivanka Trump as a means to aid the Chinese government, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Officials also Kushner warned the Chinese-American businesswoman may have been lobbying for a construction project in Washington, D.C. that was funded by the Chinese government, according to the same report. The project in question was a planned $100 million Chinese garden in the National Arboretum. The concern that U.S. counterintelligence had with the garden involved the plan for a 70 foot tall white “tower,” which officials said could potentially be used as a surveillance tool. The garden’s plans, which had been drawn up more than a decade ago as a symbol of goodwill between China and the U.S., were reportedly halted because of the aforementioned national security concerns.
A spokesman for Wendi Deng Murdoch told the Wall Street Journal that Deng has “no knowledge of any FBI concerns or other intelligence agency concerns relating to her or her associations.”
In addition to Deng’s former marriage to the right-wing media mogul who specializes in meddling with political matters in both the United States and the United Kingdom, there was a period in 2016 in which Wendi Deng Murdoch was rumored to have been dating none other than Vladimir Putin, though she has persistently denied having ever met the Russian President.
Why should we be surprised about any of this? Jared Kushner ostensibly didn’t know that colluding with a hostile foreign power in order to get his father-in-law elected was a no-no. Kushner also didn’t know that allowing his real estate company to offer $500,000 visas to wealthy Chinese business owners in order to help fund a luxury apartment complex, and handing out brochures that read “Invest $500,000 and immigrate to the United States” would eventually lead to a subpoena alleging abuse of the EB-5 visa program.
There are so many things Jared Kushner doesn’t know, which is why he was the perfect choice to be Senior Advisor to the President of the United States — a president who also knows nothing.
