Well-known conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has quite a reputation for challenging just about anyone – particularly those with opposing viewpoints – into heated debates. But one conversation recently proved too much even for him and he stormed off the scene in a rage.
Shapiro was being interviewed by Andrew Neil, chairman of the conservative magazine The Spectator and became increasingly annoyed with Neil, particularly when Neil suggested that a new anti-abortion law passed in Georgia was going to set the US back to “the Dark Ages”. Neil pressed that sentiment throughout the conversation and finally Shapiro snapped at Mr. Neil, accusing him of being a “leftist” and then ended the interview on the spot.
Neil brought up the controversial Georgia law, saying a woman could ultimately be charged and sentenced to 30 years in prison for having a miscarriage or even 10 years for going to another state for an abortion. He called these “extreme, hard policies.”
Shapiro was on the show to promote his new book,“The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great,” which Neil says focuses heavily on upholding Christian values, but flipped out when he couldn’t handle Neil’s reasonable arguments, saying:
“You purport to be an objective journalist… BBC purports to be an objective, down-the-middle network. It obviously is not, it never has been. And you as a journalist are proceeding to call one side of the political aisle ignorant, barbaric, and sending us back to the Dark Ages, why don’t you just say you’re on the left.”Ben Shapiro
Shapiro’s behavior speaks for itself but Neil pointed out several controversial statements and tweets from Shapiro that were clearly prejudiced against certain groups, particularly Arabs. Neil also said that he believed that the past behavior and statements from the conservative commentator go against the very Judeo-Christian culture he’s claimed to support and defend.
“I am not inclined to continue an interview with someone as badly motivated as you”
