President Trump and his administration continue to be under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. The objective of the inquiry is to what extent Trump and his team were involved with Russian operatives and associates during the 2016 election process. More recently, the issue of obstruction of justice by President Trump has come into question.
Most recently, former Trump National Security Advisor Michael Flynn has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in regards to involvement with Russia.
Trump has claimed, and Tweeted, to have known that Flynn was lying. This is where the obstruction of justice charges could come into play against Trump. If Trump knew Flynn was lying to senior government officials he should have been immediately terminated from his position. However, Trump kept him around for 18 days before firing him. Mueller wants to know why.
Recently, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow noted that the question as to why Flynn was not fired sooner is extremely important. As Maddow said on MSNBC Monday night, “Special counsel Robert Mueller is trying to piece together what happened inside the White House over a critical 18-day period that began when senior officials were told that National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was susceptible to blackmail by Russia, according to multiple people familiar with the matter. The questions about what happened between Jan. 26 and Flynn’s firing on Feb. 13 appear to relate to possible obstruction of justice by President Donald Trump.”
NBC News has further investigated this issue, and has been following the story for months. NBC added to Maddow’s comments the following: “If Trump knew his national security adviser lied to the FBI in the early days of his administration it would raise serious questions about why Flynn was not fired until Feb. 13, and whether Trump was attempting to obstruct justice when FBI Director James Comey says the president pressured him to drop his investigation into Flynn.”
Trump just can’t seem to get things right, or get away from controversy.
Wouldn’t it be great if the administration in the White House would just focus on efficiently and effectively running the government? What if Trump simply tried to make America great? It’s time for Trump to go. Let’s hope he did obstruct justice and that it’s enough of a crime to put him out of office – America and the world would be greatly appreciative.
