Chelsea Clinton used Twitter on Thursday to hit back at the National Enquirer’s coverage of her mother, joking that she must have “missed” all the various health scares the tabloid alleges her mother has suffered.
I’d missed the lung cancer cover, the stroke story, the one about my mom @HillaryClinton’s hitman (possibly my missing alien sibling?!) and goodness, I think all of them actually. As always, thankful for my mom’s enduring health, grace, grit & goodness. https://t.co/1uCF21iPvt

Chelsea Clinton was responding to a Quartz reporter’s tweet showing a photo spread of Enquirer covers featuring the former secretary of State and first lady. The Clinton cover mosaic tweet was quite timely as it came at a time when David Pecker, the CEO of the company that publishes the National Enquirer, has reportedly been granted immunity as part of the investigation into Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, who himself struck a plea deal last week,
The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that David Pecker met with the prosecution to discuss Cohen’s involvement in nondisclosure agreements with two women who claim to have had affairs with Trump more than a decade ago, one of whom was a Playboy model – the other is adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Just last week, Chelsea Clinton said she was considering her own entrance into politics at some point in the future in the future, though she said that such a decision would be a “definite no” at the present time.
She also added:
“I think my family … is being really well represented. But if that were to change, if my city councilor were to retire, if my congresswoman were to retire, my senators, and I thought that I could make a positive impact, then I think I would really have to ask my answer to that question [of whether to run for office]. For me it’s a definite no now but it’s a definite maybe in the future because who knows what the future is going to bring?”
